You must be a BC Hydro or New Westminster Electric Utility customer. FortisBC and other utilities have separate programs.
Submit your self-generation application through MyHydro and receive technical pre-approval before purchasing equipment.
BC Hydro pays up to $5,000 for solar and up to $5,000 more with a Peak Saver-enrolled battery on the same project.

Read the July 1 guideStill unsure which rules apply to you?
No. BC Hydro solar and battery rebates are limited to BC Hydro and New Westminster Electric Utility (NWEU) customers. FortisBC operates a separate net metering program with different rules and rebate structures. If your bill says FortisBC, these rebates do not apply.
Residential BC Hydro customers can receive up to $5,000 for solar ($1,000/kW installed, capped at 50% of eligible costs). Battery rebates depend on your setup: up to $1,500 with solar (no Peak Saver), or up to $5,000 with Peak Saver enrollment. Combined maximum with Peak Saver battery: $10,000.
Only in limited cases. As of April 1, 2026, standalone battery-only systems not enrolled in Peak Saver are not eligible. You may still qualify if you enroll in Peak Saver, or if you are adding a battery to an existing solar system that already has BC Hydro self-generation approval.
BC Hydro requires solar and battery installations completed on or after June 1, 2026 to be performed by a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member. Hiring a non-HPCN contractor or self-installing makes the project ineligible for rebates. Verify your installer on BC Hydro's HPCN contractor finder before signing.
Yes. You must submit a self-generation application through MyHydro and receive technical pre-approval before purchasing equipment. Buying panels or batteries before approval is a common reason applications fail.
Individually metered condo units are not eligible for residential per-unit rebates. If your building has a common area BC Hydro account or single-meter multi-family setup, the strata council or property manager may qualify under the multi-family program — not the standard homeowner rebate.
