Beginning June 1, 2026, BC Hydro requires solar and battery installations to be completed by a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member in order to qualify for rebates. This applies to residential, commercial, and multi-family rebate programs.
What is HPCN?
HPCN is BC Hydro's contractor network for home energy performance work. Membership indicates the contractor meets BC Hydro training and quality requirements. If your installer is not on the HPCN registry, your rebate application will not qualify — regardless of how good the installation is.
How to verify your installer
- Ask for the company's HPCN membership confirmation before signing a contract.
- Search the contractor on BC Hydro's HPCN contractor finder.
- Confirm the legal entity on your contract matches the HPCN listing.
- BC Hydro recommends comparing quotes from at least three HPCN-certified installers.
Self-installation is not eligible
DIY solar or battery installations do not qualify for BC Hydro rebates. The work must be performed by an HPCN member for installs completed on or after June 1, 2026.
What if my install started before June 1, 2026?
The HPCN requirement applies to installations completed on or after June 1, 2026. If your project timeline crosses that date, confirm requirements with BC Hydro and your contractor before work begins.
HPCN and other rebate rules
HPCN membership is necessary but not sufficient. You still need BC Hydro or NWEU service, property ownership, self-generation pre-approval, and eligible equipment. See our solar rebate guide for the full checklist.
